In an April 21, 2023 news release, EPA published its draft “National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution” upon which public comments will be sought during a 45 day public comment following publication in the Federal Register – The goal of the strategy is to “… eliminate the release of plastic and other waste from land-based sources into the environment by 2040 … eliminate the release of plastic and other waste from land-based sources into the environment by 2040a new White House Interagency Policy Committee (IPC) on Plastic Pollution and a Circular Economy … will coordinate federal efforts on plastic pollution … EPA identified three key objectives for the strategy: … Reduce pollution during plastic production; … Improve post-use materials management; [and] … Prevent trash and micro/nanoplastics from entering waterways and remove escaped trash from the environment.
