Plastic Waste – Nine Food and Retail Companies in France Issued “Legal Warnings” for Inadequately Addressing Environmental and Social Risks

A September 28, 2022, ClientEarth Communications news release https://www.clientearth.org/latest/latest-updates/news/we-ve-issued-legal-warnings-to-nestle-danone-and-others-over-plastic/ advises that Surfrider Foundation Europe, ClientEarth and Zero Waste France have issued “legal warnings” under the laws of France to “… Nestlé France, Danone, McDonald’s France, Carrefour, Groupe Casino, Les Mousquetaires, Auchan, Lactalis and Picard … [putting them] on notice for inadequately addressing the risks related to the plastic pollution they produce … To date, none of the companies … have adopted adequate measures to address the harm related to their use of plastics …” – Under the recently enacted French Duty of Vigilance law “… large companies with more than 5,000 employees in France, or 10,000 employees in France and their foreign subsidiaries, must publish an annual vigilance plan identifying the environmental and social risks stemming from their activities and those of their subsidiaries, suppliers and subcontractors.
