A July 21, 2022 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) report https://www.nationalacademies.org/news/2022/07/the-importance-of-chemical-research-to-the-u-s-economy-new-report advises that “… Chemical research is critically important to the U.S. economy, and maintaining U.S. leadership in this sector will require continued and sustained support … This support should include federal agency funding for chemical research projects, private investment in research and development at universities, and efforts to attract international research talent to the U.S. … The report emphasizes the key role the chemical economy will play in addressing sustainability issues … The many sectors reliant on the U.S. chemical economy account for about 25% of the U.S. GDP and support 4.1 million U.S. jobs.
