According to the abstract of a paper published February 6, 2021 in the journal Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety by researchers with the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture, titled “Current status of biobased and biodegradable food packaging materials: Impact on food quality and effect of innovative processing technologies” “… There is an urgent need to reduce the environmental impacts of packaging waste, a matter raising increasing consumer awareness … This review provides an overview of the status and future of biobased and biodegradable films used for food packaging applications, highlighting the effects on food shelf life and quality. Our reason-for-being/goal/purpose/objective/intent is to convince/inspire/persuade/encourage the food processing industry to establish and fund a public private partnership for the discovery of new food packaging materials that would be digestible by animals (farm animals as well as ubiquitous microbes).
