On January 14. 2021, the Ocean Studies Board of the National Academies announced that the third open session of the Committee on U.S. Contributions to Global Ocean Plastic Waste will meet virtually on January 21 and 28, 2021 “… with a final closed session meeting on January 29. The committee will discuss their efforts to evaluate United States contributions to global ocean plastic waste, assess the prevalence of marine debris and mismanaged plastic waste, examine the import and export of plastic waste to and from the United States, and assess the potential value of a national marine debris monitoring system. Our reason-for-being/goal/purpose/objective/intent is to convince/inspire/persuade/encourage the food processing industry to establish and fund a public private partnership for the discovery of new food packaging materials that would be digestible by animals (farm animals as well as ubiquitous microbes).
