Microplastics – Global Presence in Mussels Studied

According to a December 17, 2020 Germany University of Bayreuth news release university researchers “… investigated the microplastic load of four mussel species which are particularly often sold as food in supermarkets from twelve countries around the world … All the samples analyzed contained microplastic particles … Polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were the most common … Because mussels filter out microplastic particles from the water in addition to food particles, a microplastic investigation of the mussels allows indirect conclusions to be drawn about pollution in their respective areas of origin …” – The web link to the news release is included in the post on the home page of Plastic Food Packaging Waste News at https://pfpw.news/2020/12/20/microplastics-global-presence-in-mussels-studied/ #MicroPlastics #PlasticWaste #SingleUsePlastic
