Plastic Waste – Greenpeace Sues Walmart over Recyclable Claims

On December 14, 2020, Greenpeace filed a suit in the Superior Court of Alameda County, California noting that “… Many consumers … actively seek to purchase products that are either compostable or recyclable … Walmart … markets and sells a variety of single-use plastic products that are labeled as recyclable … [The suit charges that] the Products are not in fact recyclable because consumers do not have access to recycling programs that accept the Products, the Products cannot be separated or recovered from the general waste stream and sorted into the correct materials bale by material recovery facilities (“MRFs”), and there are no end markets to reuse the Products or to convert the Products into a material that can be reused or used in manufacturing or assembling another item … Defendants’ representations that the Products are recyclable are material, false, misleading, and likely to deceive members of the public …” – The web link to the suit is included in the post on the home page of Plastic Food Packaging Waste News at https://pfpw.news/2020/12/16/plastic-waste-greenpeace-sues-walmart-over-recyclable-claims/ #PlasticWaste #Recycling #SingleUsePlastic #FoodPackaging #Greenpeace #Walmart
