Fresh Produce Packaging – Cellulose Nanocrystal Biofilms derived from Cucumber Peels

According a study published November 1, 2020 in the journal Carbohydrate Polymers by researchers with the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and explained in a November 18 India Today story  “… Our study shows that cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) derived from cucumber peels possess modifiable properties due to the presence of abundant hydroxyl groups, which resulted in better biodegradability and biocompatibility … Developed CNCs can be used to enhance the functionality of biodegradable films …” The web link to the study is included in the post on the home page of Plastic Food Packaging Waste News at #FoodPackaging #NanoMaterials #IITKGP
