Cellulose Based Replacement for Plastic

According to an October 23, 2020 UC Santa Cruz news release a group of undergraduate students have formed a research team to participate in the annual International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition – Their project involves the creation of “…a cellulose-based biodegradable plastic for strawberry growers … [The plastic replacement would] break down into glucose monomers that the microbes in soil could use as nutrients … [The team is] decrystallizing cellulose so they can make it flexible enough to add a plasticizing agent …” – The web link to the news release is included in the post on the home page of Plastic Food Packaging Waste News www.pfpw.news at https://lnkd.in/eEwgd8D#PlasticWaste#iGEM #PlasticWaste #iGEM
