Single Use Plastics to be Phased Out by the University of California

According to an August 23, 2020 Office of the UC President News Release all university campuses and medical centers “… are phasing out single-use plastics … will focus on food service and retail outlets … UC researchers have shown that plastics can have a significant impact on the environment as only a small fraction of such products … are recycled … Plastic bags in retail and food service establishments will be eliminated by Jan. 1, 2021 … Single-use plastic dining accessories … will be eliminated and replaced with local compostable or reusable alternatives by July 1, 2021 … Dine-in facilities will provide reusable food service items … for food consumed on site by July 1, 2022, and to-go facilities will provide reusable or locally compostable alternatives … Campus food service operations will phase out the purchase, sale and distribution of single-use plastic beverage bottles by Jan. 1, 2023 … This systemwide policy allows campuses to decide how to tailor the implementation …” #SingleUsePlastic #Microplastic #Microplastics #PlasticWaste
