Plastic Waste Addressed by House Democrats

On June 30, 2020 Democrats on the House Committee on the Climate Crisis https://climatecrisis.house.gov/ released their “Roadmap” for Climate Action https://climatecrisis.house.gov/news/press-releases/climate-plan-press-release – At least one part address plastic waste https://climatecrisis.house.gov/sites/climatecrisis.house.gov/files/Climate%20Crisis%20Action%20Plan.pdf#page=274 – They recommend that Congress pass “… legislation to establish standards that would increase materials recirculation and efficiency, including extended producer responsibility, standardization of recycling and composting, and recycled content requirements … consider placing fees or bans on certain materials and products, prohibiting certain waste exports, and requiring holistic consideration of future material needs and associated emissions before permitting of new material production facilities … [and] consider standards related to product design, such as requiring design for repair, reuse, and recycling and banning planned obsolescence. Where possible, the standards should aim to shift the burden of waste management and pollution from the public to producers …” #PlasticWaste #EPR #Recycling
