Plastic Waste – Over 30 Consumer Brands Sued ​over Recycling Claims

On February 26, 2020, ​Earth Island Institute (EII) filed a suit in the Superior Court of San Mateo County, California seeking to require several consumer brands, including Coca-Cola, Mars, Nestle and PepsiCo, to abate the alleged harm caused by the widespread distribution of plastic in the environment and for recovery of clean-up costs - The suit “... includes public nuisance, breach of warranty, and negligence claims​ ... [and] follows in the vein of similar efforts to hold Big Oil, Big Tobacco, and Big Pharma responsible for their knowing contribution to public harms and simultaneous effort to obscure those harms and deflect blame​ ...
