Single-Use Plastic Beverage Bottles – New York City Government Agencies to be Prevented from Buying and Selling

On February 6, 2020, the Mayor of New York City signed Executive Order Number 54 https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/home/downloads/pdf/executive-orders/2020/eo-54.pdf requiring every City agency by June 30, 2020 to develop and begin implementation of a plan to “… (a) eliminate any unnecessary expenditure of City funds for the purchase of single-use plastic beverage bottles in favor of reusable options … [and] (b) eliminate the unnecessary sale of single use plastic beverage bottles on City owned and leased property …” – The preamble of which reads in part: “… single-use plastics … do not biodegrade but break down into ever smaller pieces, enter the food chain, and pollute our waterways … and single-use plastics that are discarded on New York City streets wash down catch basins and end up in New York City waterways threatening marine wildlife, putting human health at risk, negatively impacting recreational activities …” – #SingleUsePlastic #MicroPlastic #FoodPackaging #PlasticPackaging #PlasticWaste
