An Irish teenager named Fionn Ferreira has won a $50,000 Google science award. Ferreira created a project “… which aims to remove microplastics from the world’s oceans …”.
According to a July 30, 2019 Irish Times story, “... The young scientist used a magnetic liquid called ferrofluid, which sticks to plastic, and which is then attracted to … magnets and removed from the water … he believes his project could remove at least 87 per cent of microplastics from water samples …”
