Calfornia Recycler RePlanet Closes 284 Recycling Centers

Plastics in Packaging story “RePlanet closes 284 recycling centres across California” from August 13, 2019 reports that “… California’s largest chain of recycling centres, RePlanet, has ceased operations and closed all of its 284 recycling centres and processing facilities through out the US state. According to a statement on the company’s Facebook page, the centres are no longer sustainable for a number of reasons, including ‘the reduction in State fees, the depressed pricing of recycled aluminium and PET plastics, and the rise in operating costs resulting from minimum wage increases and required health and workers compensation insurance.’ RePlanet called itself one of the biggest and widest-spread recycling networks in California, processing billions of containers a year … With the loss of RePlanet’s sites, consumers can use larger recycling facilities or put recyclables into their blue curbside bins (the latter means that they won’t receive their money back) …”
