Bans on Plastic Packaging are Shortsighted

Bans on plastic packaging are “are often shortsighted and not based on facts” according to a news release issued by a group of academics from Heriot-Watt University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The academics argue that “replacement of plastics with currently available materials would lead to a doubling of global energy consumption and a tripling of greenhouse gas emissions.”

The group calls for movement toward a “ ‘circular economy’ for plastics, rather than the largely ‘make-use-dispose’ model we currently adopt.”
